Organic Synthetic Chemistry Placement
for the degree programme
Sustainable Chemistry (Module SCOC3)
This practical course provides students with both fundamental and in-depth knowledge of specific techniques and methods used in modern synthetic chemistry. The focus is on independent literature research and the critical evaluation of scientific information, as well as the planning and execution of multi-step syntheses. Students will engage in drawing up experimental protocols, carrying out and analysing chemical reactions, and characterising the reaction products obtained. Particular attention is paid to the proper and safe handling of hazardous and light-sensitive chemicals, as well as the use of spectroscopic methods for product characterisation. A further focus is on the interpretation of spectroscopic data and the critical evaluation of experimental observations.
In the accompanying seminar, students prepare for and follow up on the experiments to be carried out.
